About Sarah

Hi there, luv - I'm Sarah.  I'm in my early 30s, a wife to Brian and mother of three tinies.

This is where I write my life out.

I write about faith, spirituality, marriage, mothering, church, politics and pretty much everything else that you are not supposed to discuss in polite company.  This blog is my memoir so it reflects a wide-range of interests and topics.

I am Canadian, prairie-raised, currently west-coast living.  After 10 years in financial services marketing on both sides of the 49th parallel, I now work part-time for a non-profit, free-of-charge residential home called Mercy Ministries of Canada for young women that struggle with life-controlling issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, depression, physical and sexual abuse and self-harm.  (This probably goes without saying but whatever I post here is not reflective of the ministry, does not reflect their opinions or beliefs and should not be used against them in any way. This site is completely independent of Mercy. Also, I am currently on a year of maternity leave with our littlest girl.)

I am open-minded (most of the time), an uneasy pacifist, missional, postmodern, liberal to the conservative and conservative to the liberal in matters of both religion and politics (not an easy task, I assure you), a quasi-socialist and nondenominational happy-clappy Jesus lover. I am a poet and writer.  I am a lover and supporter of all people, an attachment parent, a Jesus feminist, too pessimistic sometimes, far too honest for polite conversation, a recovering know-it-all and a social justice wannabe. I’m a formerly urban dweller now living in the valley next to a blueberry farm. I'm a tea drinker, book devourer (is that even a word?) and a deep thinker.

I am honoured to write for A Deeper StorySheLoves MagazineStory BleedChurchLeaders.com, Relevant MagazineFraser Valley Pulse, 5 Minutes for Parenting, and Mamapedia as well as a few other sites/magazines. You can check out more info here: Writing Out and About.

This is my American husband, Brian. We have been together since we were mere babies of 19. And yes, in our wedding picture, we look like we're headed off to prom. Born and raised in the heartland, he grew up with a strong sense of calling to vocational ministry.  After university, he served as a Youth and College and Career Pastor at one of America's 50 fastest growing churches where we made life-long friends and learned enough to fill a book or sixteen. After several years, we left south Texas so that he could complete a seminary degree and eventually start a church. But our whole concept of church has shifted to a more organic and missional way so he works in business development and as a carpenter/home restorer. He also serves as my theologian-in-residence (it's a high calling *snort*).

He will be a Nebraska Cornhuskers fan until the bitter end (which nearly came just a few years ago under Callahan, according to him). He's a pastor in his heart of hearts but content to see that come to fruition in a more communal way next time. He's a romantic idealist, gregarious, charismatic and quick to make friends with a heart as big as he is (which is saying something).

In short, we're complete and total opposites but it works beautifully.

Our eldest daughter, Anne, is five and we homeschool her - for now. Our son, Joseph is 3 years old. (His birth story about being born in a parkade is always a good ice-breaker.) And Evelynn Joan is our littlest girl. She was born at home - on purpose this time.

And yes, my hands - and heart - are very full.

I love to hear your thoughts and get to know you because this isn't just a memoir-exercise for me; it's become a community.

I look forward to doing life together.

Grace and peace,
